Rose-Hulman (Ind.) tops Polar Bears 8-1
ORLANDO, Fla. — Rose-Hulman (Ind.) scored three runs in the sixth and four in the eight to break open a tied game and take an 8-1 victory over Ohio Northern Wednesday afternoon.
The win improves the Engineers to 4-1 on the season while the Polar Bears fall to 2-2.
Offensively, sophomore leftfielder Loren Fleischman continued his hot start, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Fleischman is now batting .533 (8-for-15) on the young season.
Freshman Gannon Sadzeck (1-0) pitched a complete game for Rose-Hulman, allowing just one run on ten hits while strinking out five.
Sophomore Drew Robinson (0-2) started for the Bears, going seven innings and giving up seven runs (four earned) on nine hits.
Robinson also had a pair of singles while freshman infielder Chris Sobieray had a double and scored the Polar Bears lone run.
Rose-Hulman scored first on an RBI single from Reed Eason in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
ONU answered right back in the top of the third after Sobieray doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.
The scored stayed tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth when the Engineers' Tim Tepe gave Rose-Hulman a 4-1 lead with a three-run homer, his second of the year.
RHIT then had four hits and added four unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the 8-1 victory.
Ohio Northern will continue its Florida trip Friday when it takes on St. Vincent at 3 pm.
