Titans Fall To Polar Bears In Season Opener

Ohio Northern University made an early goal stand up for 86 minutes as it defeated the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team, 1-0, on Saturday in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Christian Huelsman spoiled UW-Oshkosh's season opener by sending a cross into the goal just 3:45 into play. His score came off passes from Nathan Bascom and Chris Matejka.

Ohio Northern University goalkeeper Mac Church saved six shots to keep UW-Oshkosh scoreless for the first time in 25 matches. Church recorded four of his saves in the first half.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 13 shots, including eight in the first period. Hans Becker, Jonathan Fox, Ryan Redmond and Tim Stadler each launched two shots to pace the Titans. UW-Oshkosh (0-1) also held a 6-4 advantage over the Polar Bears (2-0) in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh's final opportunity to score came when Robby Giljohann sailed a shot high over the goal with 1:31 left.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike saved three Ohio Northern University shots while a Titan defender stopped another.

Ohio Northern University, which compiled a 17-5-1 record a year ago, marked eight shots in its inaugural meeting with UW-Oshkosh. The Polar Bears were led by the two shots of both Bascom and Matejka.

UW-Oshkosh takes to the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 4) in Rocky Mount against Wilmington College (Ohio).
