Did You Know?: Ohio Northern's Men’s Fencing team wins 1931 league title in second year of existence

Ohio Northern won its first league title in Men's Fencing in just its second season of existence in 1931.

Founded in 1930 by Major Cliffe Deming, a faculty member at ONU, the Fencing program enjoyed a great deal of success from 1930 until WWII shelved all sports at ONU in 1941.

The Polar Bears posted a 9-0 record in 1931 and won the Ohio Intercollegiate Fencing Association title.

After finishing 3-2 in its inaugural season in 1930, Northern defeated Toledo, Wittenberg, Cincinnati and Ohio Wesleyan twice each and edged Mansfield to go undefeated.
